| Feste (meaning both ‘fortifications’ and ‘celebrations’) Fortification, Ornament, Sport Solo show at Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst, 30 May–13 July 2002 Installations, rubber granulate objects, cut-outs and drawings ![]() The garden, etymologically an enclosed place – in the name of paradisiacal peace inside – has from the outset stood in a tradition of fortification and delimitation. In her works of the last four years, Susanne Lorenz has dealt with the tradition of the garden as a landscape of travel, linking the garden as a possible place of retrospective or ersatz travel with today’s possibilities of media travel that render an actual physical change of location unnecessary. The new works shown at the FESTE show focus on primarily formal aspects such as the ornamental character of the Baroque garden and the fortress aesthetic of private gardens. Within these supposedly rigid/fortified structures, the work reveals moments of dissolution and movement. ![]() "Sportbaroque", Rubber granulate, 10 pieces on wall, 80x190 cm more pictures >> |
